The Oakridge Eagles varsity boys soccer team opened the season on Monday evening hosting the West Catholic Falcons. The Eagles got off to a fast start with two early goals. The first came in the 2nd minute by Dylan Lucas off an assist from Chris Simonsen and was followed up in the 6th minute on a penalty kick by Bayly Ehnen. Both teams tallied goals late in the first half. The Eagles with another PK goal by Chris Simenson in the 34th minute. Then the Falcons got on the board on a PK in the 37th minute. The halftime score was Oakridge 3 and West Catholic 1. The game was back and forth in the second half with both teams having scoring opportunities that they were unable to capitalize on, until the Falcons brought the game within 1 goal in the 67th minute. The Eagles back line, Nathan Barber, Spencer McElfish, Mason Wever and Isiac Dailey did a great job of preventing the Falcons from getting the equalizer. Giving the Eagles the 3-2 victory. In net for the Eagles Brandon Jones had 1 save in the first half, while Jason Cerka had 6 saves in the second half to preserve the 3-2 win. The Eagles are 1-0 on the young season and host Orchard View on Wednesday at 6:45.
