Meet Recap

A soggy McGraft Park course didn’t stop junior Kyle Messerschmidt from leading his team for the second race in a row (17:23 and 8th place), but proved costly for senior Tylor Carmean after a fall that aggravated a balky hip he has been plagued by in the early going. The other Eagle runners proved game, but have yet to find the form necessary to compete seriously, all four finishing solidly in the middle of the packed Big Red Invitational field.

Game Recap

The Oakridge Eagles hosted the Orchard View Cardinals on Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up between these two rivals. It was a very hard fought game with the Eagles coming away with a 4-1 victory. The Eagles took the lead in the 17th minute on a goal from senior Fletcher Chase who took a shot from just outside the 18 and put it in the right corner of the net. The assist on this goal came from senior Luther Walker. The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute on a goal by Troy Beebe off an assist from Cameron Weaver. The halftime time score was Oakridge 2 and Orchard View 0. The Cardinals came out fast in the second half and pulled to within one goal when Cardinal senior Jared Fleener won the ball in the box and got by Eagle goalie Brad Jones to make it a 2-1 game in the 42nd minute. The score stayed 2-1 for most of the 2nd half. Until the Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 when Oakridge senior Cruz Rodriguez took a great cross from Mads Christensen and headed it onto the back of the net in the 70th minute. The Eagles then followed that up in the 76th minute with the second goal of the game by Beebe off a Jared Holter corner kick. This would finish off the scoring and send the Eagles home with the 4-1 win. The Eagles out shot Orchard View 11-8 with the Eagles senior goalie Brad Jones making 7 saves in net. The back line for Oakridge consisting of Kyle Knight, Ronnie Schafer, Monty Cerchiori, Jared Holter and Nathan Barber did a great job for most of the night keeping the Cardinal attack from scoring. The Eagles are now 2-0 on the young season and 1-0 in West Michigan Conference play. They next take on Hart on Tuesday 8/30 in their first road game of the year.

Game Recap

The Oakridge Eagles girls soccer team traveled to Lakeview High School on Thursday evening for the District semi-final against Lakeview. The Eagles got on the board in the 23rd minute on a breakaway goal by junior Lanessa Meyers. Meyers was sent on her run by a nice ball from Camri Florez. Later in the first half senior Brandy Weaver made the score 2-0 on a great strike from just outside the 18. Weaver’s shot was a nice one touch off a pass from Jade Ware. In the second half senior McKenzie Davis scored on a free kick from about 35 yards out putting a beautiful curving ball into the back post upper corner to extend the lead to 3-0. Finally senior Georja Whipple finished the scoring by putting a cross from senior Summer Messerschmidt away to give the Eagles a 4-0 win over the hosts from Lakeview. Micky Wall earned her 7th shutout of the season stopping all 3 shots. The Eagles back line did a fantastic job of slowing down the Lakeview offense, Davis, Meyers, senior Hannah Jones, sophomore Madi Whipple and senior Casey Ibarra did a fantastic job of limiting their opportunities. The Eagles move their season record to 13-3-1 and advance to the district final match at Lakeview on Saturday at 2:00 against Belding who eliminated Tri-County 3-2 in the other district semi-final.

This took the game into overtime when Alexis Florez made a nice run from outside midfield after receiving a pass from Jenna Lowry, Alexis put one past the Newaygo keeper to give the Eagles a lead they would not let go of.
