Meet Recap

Over 300 middle and high school cross country runners competed in oppressive conditions at the 38th Oakridge Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. The girl’s middle school teams from Whitehall, Montague, and North Muskegon took home the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies, while the Whitehall, Adams-Hope Heritage, and OJ DeJonge boys accomplished the same feat in their race. In the varsity girl’s race, Josie Aardema from Western Michigan Christian finished first, with GR Covenant Christian taking home the first place trophy. Middleville-Thornapple Kellogg and Mason County Central took home the second and third place trophies. In the boy’s race, Cole Jensen from Montague easily topped the field with a time of 17:03. Jensen’s team earned the first place trophy, followed by GR Covenant Christian and Western Michigan Christian. The host Eagles suffered mightily from the heat, with senior Kyle Messerschmidt finishing a full minute off his best time on his home course. Junior Matthew Jones also fell far off his recent times with a 34th place finishing, insuring the Eagles would not seriously challenge their conference rivals from Mason County Centrall.
